Technical Expertise
Hedon Salads Ltd delivers a safe and quality product to our large customer base, with a high standard in operations at the forefront.
As a result of our hard work and dedication, Hedon Salads Ltd operate to the following food standards:
· Assured Produce
· Little Red Tractor
· Eurep Gap
· Global Gap
· Field to Fork
· Natures Choice
· BRC
These high standards are delivered from both our own nurseries and from our international suppliers. Much of our imported produce is supplied directly from our own grower base. Our growers are working directly with Hedon to deliver a fresh, safe, and quality product that meets the high standards and demands of our customers.
The Technical control over these sources is handled directly in Spain by David Calijon, our resident Spanish Technical Field Manager, and in the UK by Dan Bates, our UK Technical Manager. Both staff members are available to answer any questions you may have on any aspect of production and supply of our fresh produce. You can contact them by Email them at dan.bates@hedonsalads.co.uk or david.calijon@hedonsalads.co.uk
In our modern pack house, recent investments have improved our out put and reduced our costs so that we can be as competitive as possible in our pricing arrangements with customers. We also operate to BRC Global standard at the higher level, and are proud of our due diligence to our customers.
Hedon Salads Ltd employ a wide range of ethically diverse staff from all over Eastern Europe and as far away as the Philippines, and we ensure that all of our staff are fully vetted for accuracy of work permits and immigration checks. The company does use some agency staff; where this occurs then we actively check that the agencies we use are fully accredited to the Gang Masters Licence system.
All of our nurseries are operated at a high technical standard using the most advanced Bio-divers systems of production. This includes resistant varieties to both pests and diseases. We incorporate
Biological controls, where predator and parasitic insects battle-damaging organisms, without the need for use of pesticides against specific problems and the use of insect pheromones to capture insect pests to tell us what is in the crop before it becomes a problem. Most crops are also grown on hydroponics mat systems that leave the fruit clear of contaminating soil and delivers good-quality products for our customers.
The company works closely with many European seed companies to trial new varieties and test new pest and disease-resistant products for our customers. Our aim is to be “Leading The Way” in the production of new crops and understand the latest developments in Pest and Disease control so that we can deliver products with minimal pesticide use.
The company nurseries at Burstwick and Newport also operate there own Combined Heat and Power System that reduce the Carbon Footprint of production. It does this by taking gas, using the gas in an internal combustion engine to turn an alternator to produce electricity. The electricity is used on the nursery and in the pack house and the excess is sold on the National Grid. The waste heat is collected and used to heat the greenhouses and the waste exhaust gas is captured, cleaned, and put into the greenhouse for the plants to absorb the Carbon Dioxide that the plant needs for active growth. This increases production, reduces waste and helps in combating global warming by the absorbing of carbon dioxide.
